Are you an undergraduate student interested in a health care career? Join us in Charleston for an introduction to scholarly activities and research!

Applications now being accepted for Summer 2023 (May 22-June 30)

Overview & Highlights

  • 6-week hybrid program, with in-person and virtual sessions on professional development, foundations of scholarship and research, and the structural and social determinants of health and health disparities. 
  • 1-on-1 mentorship with a College of Nursing faculty member. Mentors involve students in their own research and help make connections with other individuals across campus for mentees, based on their interests. See College of Nursing research faculty interests.
  • Stipends provided (housing not included).

Eligibility

  • Participants accepted and enrolled in the program must be: 1) U.S. citizens; 2) undergraduate students at any college or university pursuing any major; 3) interested in pursuing a career in the health sciences.
  • ANYONE meeting criteria may apply, with prioritization of applicants from historically excluded underrepresented groups.
  • Participants are required to commit to complete the six-week program.

Cover Letter: In approximately one page, explain your interest in the program, any research interests you may have, your educational background, and (if applicable) your qualification in an underrepresented group. Use this opportunity to emphasize your unique qualifications that make you stand out as an applicant.

Decision Process and Timeline

Applications for the 2023 program will be accepted February 1 through April 1.

Selected applicants will proceed to the next stage in the application process, which is an in-person or virtual interview. All applicants will be notified of their status by April 15.
