SOARS

SOARS

SOARS (Scholarship Opportunity Awards Resource System) is MUSC’s new centralized online award management system available to students from all six colleges. SOARS offers students a streamlined approach for applying for scholarships. It simplifies the application process by importing student data directly from the student record, which minimizes the amount of information asked to be provided on the application. Students can view available scholarships for which they are eligible, complete a general and college-specific application that automatically applies them to scholarships, and view and accept scholarship offers.

To view a complete listing of available scholarships visit SOARS.

Eligibility

To be considered for a College of Nursing scholarship, you must be a fully matriculated student (full-time or part-time) in the BSN, MSN, DNP, or PhD degree programs.

Students must complete:

  • a SOARS application annually
  • a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To be eligible for need-based scholarships, you must have a FAFSA filed with the MUSC Office of Financial Aid.

To apply:

Scholarships are awarded two times a year in the fall and spring semesters. All currently enrolled students within CON will be notified before the start of each application cycle when the scholarship applications open in SOARS. You will only need to apply once an academic year and your application will be used to award scholarships through the Summer semester. However, you may update your application at any time.

A NetID and password is required to access SOARS. To view scholarships offered by the College of Nursing, click on ‘Show Filters” and select College of Nursing. After you complete the general and college-specific applications, SOARS automatically applies you to scholarships for which you qualify.

After the application deadline, the College of Nursing scholarship committee will review all submitted applications and will communicate with students regarding the award notification process.

If you have technical issues with SOARS, please contact soars@musc.edu. If you have questions about specific scholarships, please contact Sonya Smalls at smala@musc.edu

Scholarship Award Process

The College of Nursing is responsible for awarding any scholarships that are established through the MUSC Foundation. Any full or part-time students enrolled in the College of Nursing are eligible for scholarships.

Awards are made by the CON Scholarship Committee based on academic standing, financial need, and scholarship criteria. The mission and values of MUSC and the College of Nursing may also be considered.

Students receiving scholarship awards are expected to write a thank you note and provide a copy to the Office of Student Services. The Director of Development may request a donor/recipient meeting. (Click for a sample thank you note)
