Student Services

The College of Nursing Office of Student Services provides comprehensive assistance to prospective and current students for a broad range of needs. We coordinate student recruitment, admission, orientation, progression, and graduation. We manage course registration, class and clinical schedules, academic calendars, ADA accommodations, compliance requirements, and student ceremonies.

Student Services is the liaison between the College of Nursing and other MUSC campus offices such as the Office of Enrollment Management and Financial Aid.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversees CON Enrollment Management related processes (admissions, registration, LOA, transfer credit requests, grades, course activations, schedules, graduation, Bulletin)
  • Serves on CON Admission Progression and Graduation, Curriculum, Scholarship Working Group, MUSC Student Services Ambassadors committees
  • Hires, manages, and oversees student services team members
  • Reviews and approves academic advisements in accordance to college & university policy
  • Serves as liaison to MUSC Alumni Association

Jessica Williams serves as the Director of Student Services at the College of Nursing. Mrs. Williams has been with the CON since 2013 and assumed her current role in February 2019, after previously serving as the Clinical Education Manager and Student Services Program Coordinator. Mrs. Williams earned her BS in Communication at East Carolina University, and her MA in Adult Education, with a focus on curriculum development and design, from the University of South Florida. She has over 18 years of student services experience, having worked in the Career Center at the College of Charleston and as an academic coordinator, for athletes, at East Carolina University and the University of South Florida. Mrs. Williams loves spending time outside and going on adventures with her husband and three children. She was a student-athlete in college and went on to play professional golf for two years post-graduation.

Dajihnee Thompson serves as the Student Recruiter and has been at the College of Nursing since December 2022, she previously worked at Hire Quest Inc. as a Garnishment Specialist. She earned her BS in Business Management at South Carolina State University. During her time at SC State, she served as a Recruitment and Retention Ambassador for the School of Business, where she traveled to various high schools educating students on the programs, scholarship opportunities and campus life. Ms. Thompson is originally from McClellanville, SC. She enjoys volunteering in local communities, collecting candles, trying new foods, and spending time with loved ones.

Sonya Smalls serves as the Database Administrator in charge of academic grants and student data analytic projects, surveys and reports. Ms. Smalls manages and fulfills requests for student data, and gathers, analyzes, and reports data to support college decision-making, grant preparation, grants reporting and other obligatory reporting requirements for federal and state agencies and various rankings entities. She also works with the Office of Academics in managing pre and post award grant activities including posting availability of awards to students, collecting applications, scoring, award distribution and compliance. Ms. Smalls originally joined CON in 2008 in the Office of Research and previously worked in the non-profit and academia sectors as a Grants Manager and Grants Compliance Officer. She earned her BS in Finance and Real Estate from The University of South Carolina and her MBA in Financial Analysis from the Keller Graduate School of Management. She is originally from James Island, SC and enjoys traveling and thrill-seeking activities.

Alex Evans serves as the Compliance and Evaluation Officer, and joined the College of Nursing in October 2017. Ms. Evans enjoys being engaged in the higher education processes, having previously held roles as Associate Registrar, Adjunct Faculty, Faculty Athletic Rep., and Veteran’s Affairs Certifying Official. In addition to her many roles in higher education, she’s also served as Training Director for a non-profit, Director of Audits and Training, and Quality Improvement and Risk Management Analyst for another state agency. Ms. Evans earned a BA in Political Science from University of South Carolina, and holds a Master of Arts in Education from the Citadel. She loves working with students from diverse backgrounds and is committed to helping them reach their goals. She is originally from North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and loves spending time with her family.

Diane Dougherty serves as the Clinical Education Manager for the CON. She has been at MUSC since 2023 but has worked in higher education since 2012. Diane earned her BS in Mass Communications (’11) and her M.S.Ed in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Student Affairs (’18) from Old Dominion University. Having served as the Editor-in-Chief of her college newspaper, that experience opened the doors for her leap into working for institutions and students professionally. She is passionate about student well-being and development and incorporates those facets into her daily practice. With a breadth of experience in student affairs, career and academic advising, medical education, and student event planning/programming she enjoys incorporating these sub-specialties every day at CON to enhance the clinical education experience for students. When she is not working, she enjoys spending her time with her husband and dog-ter Sully outdoors, exploring the many restaurants and coffee shops of Charleston, or reading curled up on the couch.

Anne Marie Guerriero serves as the Student Services Program Coordinator. Mrs. Guerriero’s higher education experience began at The Citadel in 2017 and she joined the CON in August 2022. Mrs. Guerriero earned her BA in Psychology from Winthrop University, and M.Ed. in Higher Education Leadership from The Citadel Graduate College. She resides in Charleston with her husband, Joseph, and beloved cats, Millie, and Cleo. When out of the office, Mrs. Guerriero enjoys camping and hiking adventures.

LaChone Taylor serves as the Undergraduate Program Coordinator for the ABSN and RN-BSN programs. She works closely with faculty and the Assistant Dean to ensure students have the support and resources they need. LaChone began her career in higher education at Trident Technical College in 2022, where she served as a Student Services Coordinator providing support with academic advising, onboarding, and program implementation. Prior to her career in higher education, she shared her passion for English in Charleston and Berkeley County School Districts.

LaChone holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Education from Charleston Southern University. Outside of work, she enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, traveling, trying new restaurants, and watching the Lakers dominate on the court.

Madeline is a graduate of Clemson University (go Tigers!) and resides in Charleston with her husband and two sons. Madeline loves reading books and rearranging her furniture. Her pinkie toe is comically smaller than the rest of her toes and she delights in hearing the weird and wonderful things about people she meets.
