CON Faculty and Staff onboarding VR technology

The College of Nursing at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is at the forefront of a transformative shift in nursing education, integrating cutting-edge technology to prepare students for the demanding realities of healthcare.

The Immersive Virtual Reality Simulation (IVRS) curriculum revolutionizes how the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program trains its students. The College of Nursing ABSN program has become one of the first in South Carolina to offer an advanced IVRS-based curriculum. Nine training scenarios begin the first semester and span four semesters of the ABSN program.

The integration of IVRS allows for more flexible, accessible simulation training, overcoming traditional barriers such as limited faculty availability, clinical space and location.

The IVRS curriculum offers students an unparalleled opportunity to gain hands-on clinical experience in a virtual environment that mirrors real-world patient care. Through immersive simulations, students navigate complex patient scenarios, work within interprofessional teams and hone their communication skills to build confidence in handling high-stress situations better preparing them for transition to practice in actual clinical settings.

As the demand for skilled nurses continues to rise, The College of Nursing's commitment to utilizing the latest technology to enhance nursing education will help ensure that the next generation of nurses is prepared to provide safe, high-quality care in any healthcare setting.
