The BHWET-CAY Program aims to increase behavioral health providers in rural communities, addressing the behavioral health needs of children, adolescents, and young adults (ages 16-25).
The program addresses challenges in recruiting and training behavioral health professionals and provides stipends to support trainees during clinical/experiential training.
The BHWET grant provides stipends to enrolled PMHNP students who commit to completing their field placement and plan to pursue employment with CAY populations in rural areas. The College of Nursing will award up to $25,000 per student as long as funds are available for the 2024-2025 academic year.
“I chose to go back to school to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner because of the rise in mental health crises in the United States, specifically in disadvantaged populations. Now I know that I can continue to help those disadvantaged from access to proper mental health care.”
