Student Services
The College of Nursing Office of Student Services provides comprehensive assistance to prospective and current students for a broad range of needs. We coordinate student recruitment, admission, orientation, progression, and graduation. We manage course registration, class and clinical schedules, academic calendars, ADA accommodations, compliance requirements, and student ceremonies.
Student Services is the liaison between the College of Nursing and other MUSC campus offices such as the Office of Enrollment Management and Financial Aid.

Meet Our Team
Jessica K. Williams, MA
Assistant Dean for Students
ADA Liaison, College of Nursing
Jessica K. Williams, MA, serves as assistant dean for students at the MUSC College of Nursing. She joined the college in 2013 and assumed her current role in February 2019 after serving as clinical education manager and student services program coordinator.
Williams earned a Bachelor of Science in Communication from East Carolina University and a Master of Arts in Adult Education, with a focus on curriculum development and design, from the University of South Florida. She brings more than 18 years of experience in student services, including positions in the Career Center at the College of Charleston and as an academic coordinator for student-athletes at East Carolina University and the University of South Florida.
A former collegiate student-athlete, Williams played professional golf for two years after graduation. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time outdoors and going on adventures with her husband and three children.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversees CON Enrollment Management related processes (admissions, registration, LOA, transfer credit requests, grades, course activations, schedules, graduation, Bulletin)
- Serves on CON Admission Progression and Graduation, Curriculum, Scholarship Working Group, MUSC Student Services Ambassadors committees
- Hires, manages, and oversees student services team members
- Reviews and approves academic advisements in accordance to college & university policy
- Serves as liaison to MUSC Alumni Association
Diane Dougherty, M.S.Ed.
Associate Director, Student Retention & Success
Diane Dougherty, M.S.Ed., serves as associate director of Student Retention & Success at the MUSC College of Nursing. She joined MUSC in 2023 and has worked in higher education since 2012.
Dougherty earned a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications in 2011 and a Master of Science in Education in educational leadership, with a concentration in student affairs, in 2018 from Old Dominion University. Her experience as editor-in-chief of her college newspaper helped launch her career supporting institutions and students. She is passionate about student well-being and development and integrates both into her daily work.
Dougherty brings experience in student affairs, career and academic advising, medical education, and student programming and event planning. At the College of Nursing, she draws on these areas of expertise to strengthen the clinical education experience and support student success. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and their dog, Sully, exploring Charleston’s restaurants and coffee shops, and reading on the couch.

Alexzena "Alex" Evans, M.A.
Associate Director, Student Compliance & Operations
Alexzena "Alex" Evans, M.A., serves as associate director of student compliance and operations at the MUSC College of Nursing. She joined the college in October 2017 and values the opportunity to support students throughout their higher education experience.
Evans brings experience from a range of higher education roles, including associate registrar, adjunct faculty member, faculty athletic representative and Veterans Affairs certifying official. She has also served as a training director for a nonprofit organization, director of audits and training, and quality improvement and risk management analyst for a state agency.
Evans earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Arts in Education from The Citadel. She is committed to helping students achieve their goals. Originally from North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, she enjoys spending time with her family.

Sonya Smalls, MBA
Associate Director, Academic Reporting & Analytics
Sonya Smalls, MBA, serves as associate director of Academic Reporting & Analytics at the MUSC College of Nursing, where she oversees academic grants and student data analytics projects, surveys and reports. She manages requests for student data and collects, analyzes and reports information to support college decision-making, grant development and reporting, and required submissions to federal and state agencies and ranking organizations.
Smalls also works with the Office of Academics to manage pre- and post-award grant activities, including announcing funding opportunities to students, collecting and evaluating applications, distributing awards and ensuring compliance. She joined the College of Nursing in 2008 through the Office of Research and previously worked in the nonprofit and academic sectors as a grants manager and grants compliance officer.
Smalls earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance & Real Estate from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Business Administration in Financial Analysis from the Keller Graduate School of Management at DeVry University. A James Island, South Carolina, native, she enjoys traveling and participating in thrill-seeking activities.

Anne Marie Guerriero, MEd
Student Services Coordinator
Anne Marie Guerriero, MEd, serves as student services program coordinator at the MUSC College of Nursing. Her career in higher education began at The Citadel in 2017, and she joined the College of Nursing in August 2022.
Guerriero earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Winthrop University and a Master of Education in Higher Education Leadership from The Citadel Graduate College. She lives in Charleston with her husband, Joseph, and their beloved cats, Millie and Cleo. Outside of work, she enjoys camping and hiking adventures.

Madeline Scully, MEd
Graduate Program Coordinator
Madeline Scully serves as graduate program coordinator at the MUSC College of Nursing, where she supports students in the DNP, certificate and Ph.D. in Nursing Science programs. She coordinates admissions, registration, orientation, enrollment processes, convocation and graduation, helping students navigate important milestones throughout their academic journeys.
A graduate of Clemson University and devoted Tigers fan, Scully lives in Charleston with her husband and two sons. Outside of work, she enjoys reading and rearranging her furniture. She also delights in discovering the weird and wonderful details that make people unique, including her own comically small pinkie toe.

LaChone Taylor
Undergraduate Program Coordinator
LaChone Taylor serves as undergraduate program coordinator for the Accelerated and RN-to-BSN Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs at the MUSC College of Nursing. She works closely with faculty and the assistant dean to ensure students have the support and resources they need to succeed.
Taylor began her career in higher education at Trident Technical College in 2022, where she served as a student services coordinator and supported academic advising, student onboarding and program implementation. Before entering higher education, she shared her passion for English with students in the Charleston County and Berkeley County school districts.
Taylor earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Education from Charleston Southern University. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, trying new restaurants and cheering on the Los Angeles Lakers.
