Community Primary Care

Partners in HealthCare at ECCO

Purpose:

To provide primary care, health promotion, and chronic disease management to uninsured patients in our community. The practice is a partnership between the MUSC College of Nursing and East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO). ECCO is a non-profit community service organization that provides assistance, guidance, and resources to Tri-County (Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester) residents.

  • ECCO, a non-profit, community service organization, serves more than 4,500 Berkeley and Charleston County families who are living in poverty.
  • This initiative is a collaboration between MUSC College of Nursing, ECCO, MUSC Department of Family Medicine, as well as Roper St. Francis Healthcare.
  • To ensure continuity of care for their patients, two CON faculty nurse practitioners, Dr. Cathy Durham and Dr. Whitney Smith, practice at Partners in HealthCare two days each week.
  • In addition, this initiative provides the opportunity for interprofessional education and precepted experiences for DNP, MSN, ABSN, PharmD, and PA students
