The Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing has announced two interim academic leadership appointments.
Kristen Poston, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, CHSE, has been appointed interim associate dean for academics and Amy Smith, DNP, APRN, AGNP-C, CNE, has been named interim assistant dean of undergraduate programs.
“These appointments reflect the depth of talent within our faculty and our commitment to preparing practice-ready nurses through innovation and experiential learning,” said Dean Catherine Durham, DNP, APRN, FNP, FAAN.
Dr. Poston has been a faculty member since 2017 and previously served as the assistant dean for undergraduate programs. A Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator, her scholarship focuses on practice readiness, simulation and clinical judgment development. She has held leadership roles with statewide nursing and simulation organizations.
Dr. Smith is an assistant professor who teaches in the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and has served as director of prelicensure programs. A Certified Nurse Educator and Board-Certified Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner, she also practices with the MUSC Palliative Care ambulatory team. Her honors include the 2025 Palmetto Gold Award for Nursing Excellence and multiple teaching awards.
